Ponte Vedra boys golf team makes history with its 7th state championship

The rhythm continues for the Ponte Vedra golf team.

The Sharks capped a stellar week for the program, winning for the fifth consecutive time at the Guise State Championships with a six-stroke victory over the Tallahassee Chils in the Class 3A championship on Wednesday at Mission Inn Resort & Club. The Sharks finished 30 years (298-308) as a team to win a historic title.

The Ponte Vedra Championship was her seventh overall, breaking the tie for the most in state history with Nease and Tampa Plant. Sharks today with a stroke entered Lake Mary but it closed tight.

You put an exclamation point on a great week of sports for Ponte Vedra. The Sharks girls’ swimming team won the state’s Class 3A championship last Saturday at Stewart, their first state title. The day before, the Ponte Vedra girls’ cross country team claimed the 3A state title in Tallahassee. The volleyball team also reached the State Class 6A championship on Wednesday evening but fell to the Mater Academy.


Danny Erickson was the Sharks’ low scorer, going 75-74 for 5 on a 149 for T-4. Teammate Carson Brewer scored 72 equal points in the final round, tying with the day’s second low score. Rohan Singh (71-81, 8 over 152) and Brock Bliss (75-81, 11 over 156) also finished 33rd in the singles standings for the Sharks.

Brewer also made a 149. Columbia’s Ty Folsom (74-76, 5-over 150) earned a T-10 and Bartram Trail’s Nolan Harper went 73-78 for a 6-over 151 and T-16.

In the Class 3A girls’ championship, Bartram Trail tied for sixth place (338-330) with a 92 over 668 team. Both Nancy Cox of Ponte Phaedra and Maddie Rathgen of Bartram finished the T-20 at 13 over 157.
