Detroit – LeBron James was sent off early in the third quarter after drawing blood by punching Isaiah Stewart in the face, leaving Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook to seal the Los Angeles Lakers’ 121-116 victory over the Detroit Pistons Sunday night.

Davis scored 30 points, had 10 rebounds and two big shots, leading late on over Pistons’ 20-year-old rookie Kid Cunningham. Westbrook contributed 26 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Cunningham, ranked No. 1 overall in the draft, had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to become the youngest player in franchise history with a triple-double.

Westbrook was technically evaluated after officials reviewed the play and its aftermath.

After restoring calm Sunday night, Detroit closed the third quarter strong and led 99-84 to enter the fourth.

Westbrook and Davis both scored in double digits in the last quarter, leading the Lakers to win to reach 0.500 this season.

Detroit had the ball 5.9 seconds before the opportunity to tie the game, but Hamidou Diallo returned the ball and Davis made free throws to score the victory.

James scored 10 points and five assists in his second game in the squad. After missing eight games with abdominal strain, he played Friday night in a 130-108 loss in Boston.
