Cincinnati moves to the College Football Center

Cincinnati moved into her spot for the College Football Playoff on Tuesday night, climbing to fourth behind Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama.

No team outside the Power Five conferences has been selected in the semifinals in the seven years prior to a College Football game.

With a full game weekend approaching, one filled with playoff championship trails and conventions, it looks like Cincinnati (11-0) has a realistic path to a watershed no matter what happens around the Bearcats.

Cincinnati plays in East Carolina on Friday and then meets Houston (10-1), seeded 24 by the committee, in the American Athletics Championships game on December 4.

Prior to this season, no team from the so-called Group of Five Conference had ever been rated better than seventh by the CFP Selection Committee.

Michigan is the fifth en route to its game against Ohio State that is supposed to produce the Big Ten’s best shot to make the playoff.

Notre Dame (10-1) is in sixth place. The only Irish Fighting loss is for Cincinnati.

Oklahoma State (10-1) in seventh is the highest-ranked Big 12 team.

The top 12 contenders Baylor (8th) and Oklahoma (tenth) round out the top 10 with Mississippi between them.

The Sooners play in Oklahoma State on Saturday in a game that will help determine who plays in the 12th big title game.

The final CFP rankings will be revealed on December 5 and the top four teams will play in the semi-finals on December 31 in the Orange and Cotton Basins. The national championship game is scheduled for January 10 in Indianapolis.
