Bennett, No. 1, Georgia still perfect, after beating Tennessee 41-17

Knoxville, Tenn. Georgia Bulldogs are ranked #1 and have just finished a perfect run by the Southeastern Conference schedule.

They are not satisfied yet.

Stetson Bennett ran for a touchdown and threw another while Georgia defeated Tennessee 41-17 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (10-0, 8-0, No. 1 CFP) are undefeated in an SEC regular season for the first time since the league split into divisions in 1992 and gone into an eight-game schedule.

“Nobody thinks they’ve arrived,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “There are things we can continue to work on to improve, and they will continue to do so. But tonight? They have had a tough challenge in our league and played well.”

Georgia has already had its fourth place in the SEC Championship game in five years and is booked into that game. The Bulldogs were last undefeated in a league game in 1982 with a score of 6-0, which is also the last time the Bulldogs started 10-0.

“I mean 39, I mean she’s special…” Bennett said.

The Vols’ biggest win in this game came with 3:38 left before plenty of empty seats. Joe Milton hit Cedric Tillman in a 12-yard TD, giving Tennessee the most points he’s scored against Georgia in a game of the season.

“Personally, just knowing how strong I am on myself and how standard I am for this defence, I’m not happy with this touchdown,” Georgia player Nacobi Dean said.

Tennessee State came in second in the Bowl Subdivision division with 1.59 points per minute. Georgia and the lowest scoring defense, which allowed 6.6 points per game, simply stifled the Vols. The Bulldogs held Tennessee to 9 yards total in the second quarter.

Tennessee coach of the year Josh Heubel said, “You have to do some plays to give yourself a chance to play it through to the end. The red zone wasn’t good enough. Losing the turnover (the fight) 2-0 hurt.”

take away

Georgia: The Bulldogs may not have transformed into the dominant defensive performance they are known for this season. But they have proven that they can beat many sick players. Smart said they pulled defensive lineman Galen Carter, who had received intravenous fluids, in the first half because the fever was over 100.

Tennessee: Hooker experienced his worst game of the season after notching his best game in last week’s win over Kentucky with two turnovers, including his interception for only the third time in the season. The volunteers had chances to stay in this game. But they settled on a field goal after hitting Georgia 7, and flipped it twice in Georgia Territory, once at Bulldogs 17 and Hawker’s stutter came third and sixth at Georgia 7. Next drive.

“We were a little further away. I threw a couple sailing at him,” Heupel said of Hooker.
