Denver Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota called on House leaders Friday to take “appropriate action” against Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Poppert for using anti-Muslim language in describing her recent meeting with Omar at the US Capitol.

according to Video clip Sent by a Twitter account called PatriotTakes, Boebert made the remarks this holiday season. In it, she says that she and a staff member were riding an elevator at the Capitol when she saw a panicked Capitol police officer running toward them. She said she turned to her left and saw Omar standing next to them.

Well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine,” Poubert recalls, laughing at her audience. And I said, ‘Look, the Jihad squad has decided to come to work today.’

Saying I’m suicidal is no laughing matter. Omar tweeted. ” Tweet embed And Tweet embed Need to take appropriate measures, normalizing this intolerance not only endangers my life, but also endangers the lives of all Muslims. There is no place in Congress for bigotry against Muslims.”

Boebert became a partisan thunderbolt during her first term in Congress, insisting on her right to bring a gun to the House floor, vote to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory and maintain a fiery social media presence as she insists on Biden and the Democrats leading the country toward socialism.

In a statement released later Friday, Pelosi and senior House Democrats called Poebert to “completely retract these comments and refrain from making similar comments.” They also called on Republican leaders to “address this priority with the congresswoman and ultimately take real action. to confront racism.”

Omar al-Khamis said Poubert made up the story.

“Truth, this clown looks down when she sees me on the Capitol, that’s the whole story,” Omar wrote in a tweet. “Sad because she thinks bigotry has its influence.”

Boebert Tweeted earlier on Friday That “I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended my comment about MP Omar. I reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are a lot of political differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”

McCarthy’s offices did not immediately respond to email and phone requests for comment late Friday. Phone calls and emails seeking comment from Poibert and Omar were also not immediately answered.

Poubert’s comments were condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations in a statement urging McCarthy and other Republican leaders to disavow Poubert’s comments.

She said Boubert’s allusion to the backpack is an “anti-Islamic distortion that all Muslims are terrorists,” as well as her use of the term “jihad squad.”

Omar and Alexandria Representatives Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib sometimes refer to themselves as “The Team.”
