Teen arrested in murder of officer Yande Chirino
FORT Lauderdale, Florida (AP) – A judge has ordered an 18-year-old man to be held without bail in the fatal shooting of a police officer in South Florida.
Judge Tabitha Blackmon on Tuesday also ordered Jason Banegas to undergo a mental health exam at the request of his attorney. He is accused of shooting Hollywood police officer Yande Chirino in the face on Sunday night after a suspicious incident call in a neighborhood.
Court records show Banegas was released from Miami-Dade County Jail last month. He now faces charges including premeditated murder, violent resistance to an officer, armed robbery, and theft of a firearm.
