Firefighters battle flames at a rail yard northwest of Jacksonville
Jacksonville, Florida. The Independent: — Firefighters were called to start a fire Friday afternoon at a railroad yard in northwest Jacksonville.
They said they brought the fire under control at 12:48 p.m., less than 20 minutes after receiving the call on Soutel Drive.
The city’s JaxReady Twitter account sent out an alert to avoid the area and expected road closures and traffic delays due to fire crew activity.
A News4Jax viewer captured a video of the flames engulfing an object in the railway yard with thick black smoke.
It’s unclear what exactly caught fire in the rail yard, but it appears that a large crane engine and a shipping container were involved.
Hazemt’s team was called to the scene, but there was no word on whether there was any contamination from the fire.
Injuries have been reported.
