Apartment engulfed in flames in South Bank
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a two-story apartment building fire on 2020 Reed Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the firefighters, all seven residents of four different apartments managed to get out safely before they reached the scene. These residents are not allowed to go inside due to the severe damage to the wires. JFRD is not able to restart electricity at this time.
One of the apartments was severely damaged and two others were slightly damaged.
Crews remained at the scene after putting out the flames to make sure there were no hot spots. However, one of the firefighters was taken to the hospital as a precaution for heat exhaustion.
JFRD believes the fire started in a first-floor bedroom.
The JFRD contacted the American Red Cross to help the affected families.
