A long wait is expected at the country’s airports on Sunday as travelers return home
Jacksonville, Florida. Long lines and crowds were expected at Jacksonville International Airport on Sunday, but early in the day there wasn’t as much of a rush as expected.
At Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), officials said they expect 11,000 people to arrive as part of vacation travel.
Arrive two hours earlier than scheduled departure times to allow time for parking, bag checks, and going through the TSA, officials said.
Most of the people News4JAX spoke to on Sunday morning did exactly that.
“It’s been really easy so far. There’s no traffic coming here and I came here so early and I think it’s going to be crazy here,” said one of the travelers.
News4JAX did not see long queues at offices or even at drop-offs.
“I’ve really made the transition to TSA so far very smoothly,” said the traveler.
Records show that more than 53 million Americans are expected to travel this weekend. Sunday was expected to be as busy as the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Fortunately, some travelers said it was easy to navigate JAX.
“Seattle could be much worse than here. “We got here very early but things were very smooth,” said one traveler.
